Non-Profit Debt Relief- Negative Attention Abounds

*Epic Debt Relief is not a credit counseling agency and does not affiliate with any such parties. The company serves consumers with debt settlement plans, and has provided the information below strictly for educational purposes for consumers in need of debt relief solutions.*

There has been a lot of negative attention recently that is focused on non-profit debt relief companies and the abuse of their organizations. In many cases, being non-profit is required in becoming a credit counseling agency, and most companies will set up as charitable organizations or educational companies. However, there are so many companies out there, and so few who actually provide any charitable services or educational materials to clients. The IRS even cautions consumers against non-profit companies that are using their status to get around state and federal laws that are designed to protect consumers.

The main way that these companies abuse their power comes in the form of their marketing. They will show people that they are a non-profit company, throwing the word around like it's a big special thing, and then charge ridiculously high set up fees, monthly fees, or other charges for their debt management solutions or their educational materials. Some companies even use this ‘non-profit' status as a way to give themselves credibility or even appear to have approval from the government, when in fact they are a private company.

The goal of learning about these companies and the bad attention surrounding them is to help consumers be more informed and prepared in their credit repair and debt relief solutions.
